  • Childcare for Key Workers

    Tue 31 Mar 2020

We are currently looking at the practicalities of providing Emergency Childcare for the Easter holidays.  This is an unprecedented situation where our school is looking to support those critical or key workers, if-needed over the Easter holidays.

    The Government have clearly stated:

Critical workers are defined as parents whose work is critical to the COVID-19 response, including those who work in health and social care and in other critical sectors.

However, many parents working in these critical sectors will be able to ensure their child is kept at home.

Every child who can be safely cared for at home should be, to limit the chance of the virus spreading.

So we can arrange the appropriate level of staffing in school for each day, could you please e-mail the school office enquiries@longbenningtonacademy.co.uk stating which days you require childcare for. We would also be grateful if you could keep us updated if your circumstances change and you no longer require childcare.

Moving forward post Easter, we will continue to use e-mail as the line of communication for booking your child into school for the emergency childcare.  We will need to know by Wednesday each week if your child needs childcare for the following week in order for us to assess demand and arrange appropriate levels of staffing.

In terms of home-schooling our staff are working hard at opening up lines of communication with the children and I know they are enjoying the opportunity to speak to the children again, albeit through a virtual world.  In addition to this, we continue to update the ‘Home Schooling’ section on our website with lots of ideas and resources to help you all.

  • The Sunshine is back!

    Tue 31 Mar 2020

    Good morning everyone,

How lovely it is to the sun shining again this morning, hopefully this will make our one piece of exercise outside a little bit more enjoyable today! As I have been walking around this weekend I have seen so many rainbows and it got me thinking about the rainbow story we shared in assembly a couple of weeks ago.  How true is it that we are all equally important? I think the whole Coronavirus period has certainly proved that over the last week! I hope you are all continuing to bring that bit of sunshine to your homes??

Once I get home from work today we have an important job to do.  George, Stanley and Darcy's Nanna wrote them a letter and we received it in the post, the boys had never received a handwritten letter before and they loved reading it.  Today they are replying and I know their Nanna will equally enjoy receiving a letter.  I wonder if there is anyone you could write to?

We are missing you all incredibly and look forward to school being back to normal.

  • Monday morning

    Mon 30 Mar 2020

    Good morning everyone,

I hope you are all well and enjoyed a relaxing weekend spending time with your families.  We managed to get out and about for a walk each day which was nice, even though the lovely weather has now deserted us. Although that hasn't stopped George and Stanley wanting to wear shorts everyday! Darcy has now learnt to roll over so she is busy rolling everywhere and wanting to eat anything she can get her hands on.

This week in our Collective Worship we were going to be thinking about Holy Week, before our Easter service in church.  The main events of Holy week are Palm Sunday, The Last Supper, Good Friday and then Easter Sunday.  Have you seen any of Mr Buckeridge's Youtube videos where he is telling the story of these events, he has done 2 so far and they are great to watch.

It would be lovely if you could try and learn a little bit more about these events and may be produce some work to show what you have learnt.  This could be a picture/artwork, a cartoon, a piece of writing or anything else you can think of.  You can share these through the enquiries e-mail address or on your google classroom pages.

I hope you are all keeping busy and most importantly staying safe.

  • Good Morning

    Fri 27 Mar 2020

    Good morning everyone,

Here we are at the end of our first week of home schooling, I hope it has been a good week for you and the sunshine has helped lift your spirits this week.  I know that there are so many resources out there and your teachers are working hard to establish some lines of communication with you, they are missing you all.

George and Stanley are certainly making the most of the sunshine, my grass will never be the same again! In fact i doubt by the time we are ready to go back to school I don't think there will be any grass left in my garden after all the football and cricket that is going on.  Darcy on the other hand is blissfully unaware of the whole situation and is busy rolling around chewing anything she can get her hands on!

I hope some of you were able to watch Mr Buckeridge's assembly the other day, he has kindly recording the second part of the story.  Retelling the Easter story through writing, a PowerPoint or even artwork would be a lovely task for you all to do.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and continue to live out our school values in your own home.

    Stay safe,

    Mr Nicholson

  • Another Lovely Day

    Wed 25 Mar 2020

    Hi everyone,

Apologies that today's message is a little later than usual but I have been in school today.  We've all been trying to keep busy to take our minds off how quiet school is.  Miss Baliol-Key,  Miss Richardson and some of the children have made rainbows for the school fence.  If you are out on your one walk of the day around the village then keep an eye out for them.  I managed to rope Mr Gosling in to a spot of gardening, the school garden now looks a little bit more tidy than it did before and I am sure Ms Butterfield would be impressed by our work!   I hope we get back to school in time to start growing some nice vegetables.

I know you will have all been busy at home trying out many of the activities your teachers are sharing.  I hope you have been keeping healthy and active, George and Stanley tell me that the daily Joe Wicks workout is hard work! Even Darcy tried to get involved yesterday with an acrobatic role out of her ring!

Whilst we work to set up Microsoft Teams, if you have any work that you would like to share with your teachers then feel free to send it to our school email address which is: enquiries@longbenningtonacademy.co.uk .  I will then forward it on to your class teacher.

Keep being amazing and make sure you all keep safe.

    Mr Nicholson

  • A special Mr Buckeridge Collective Worship

    Tue 24 Mar 2020

We all love listening to Mr Buckeridge during our Collective Worship time.  He has kindly made a series of Youtube videos to tell the Easter story.  Here is video one, which tells us the story of Palm Sunday.

  • Learning Resources

    Tue 24 Mar 2020

    Good morning everyone,

How strange it is to be in school without all of your smiling faces to brighten our day.  I hope that you are all making the most of the opportunity to spend precious time with your families and more importantly staying safe.

We know that websites like Purple Mash are experiencing high demand and are struggling to cope with everyone logging on at once.  Don't panic though, this will calm down and they are working to upgrade servers etc.  However, you don't need to have a rigidly timetabled day and you can use the time to read, play a game, go out in the garden, write a story, cook something . . . there's still lot's to do!

We have added some more links/resources to the new Home Learning section of the website, which is in the news & letters tab.

We can't wait to have you back at school and hear all about what you have been doing.

    Stay safe everyone

    Mr Nicholson
