The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) was officially announced by the Department for Education (DfE) in September 2017.
The multiplication tables check (MTC) is statutory for primary schools in the 2021/22 academic year.
The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided
Information about supporting your child to prepare can be found in the PowerPoint below or by visiting https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/at-school/primary-school-assessment-tests/year-4-multiplication-tables-check/.
Please note that the rapid recall of division facts is also integral to the check therefore these also require regular practise. It is also essential that children routinely practise these online, using a keyboard, in order to familiarise themselves with the keyboard layout.
