Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Choir will be performing at Walton Girls School on Thursday 3rd December. We will leave school at 4.15 by coach so children need to be at school by 4.10 to ensure that we leave on time. If you wish your child to stay in school between 3.30 and 4.10 please tell them to let either Miss Baliol-Key or Miss Newcombe know and we will arrange to supervise them. If you are close enough for your child to go home for a short time, please do ensure they are back by 4.10. If you child normally attends a club on a Thursday, they unfortunately will not be able to attend it for this week only.
If you wish to attend the performance, tickets will be available from us in the next week or so and will cost £3. If you attend the performance you may take your child home from Walton rather than them having to come back to school. If you are not able to attend the performance please ensure you are at school for 7.30 to collect your child – school will not be open at this time.
As always thank you for your support with choir.
Ms Baliol-Key and Miss Newcombe
What a wonderful day. Many, many thanks to all those who put in so much work to make so many fabulous learning opportunities for our children - well done to you all!
Here are a few pictures to show you some of the amazing activities that were going on around school....
Dear Parents,
Many, many thanks to ALL of you who took the time to complete the parents survey sent out before half term.
I read all of your comments and very much appreciate the honesty and spirit in which these constructive comments have been made.
We really want to get it right for yourselves and your children and i hope that you will be seeing actions that we have taken in school, paying real dividends for your children as they move forward through school.
I have posted the results of the parents' survey in our KEY DOCUMENTS menu, also the action plan I have written that goes to show what we will be doing about some of the things that have been raised.
I may be catching up with a few parents to ask further questions about the surveys so I can really get to grips with how we can best work together to make a real difference for our pupils.
We are very proud and excited to announce that the school now has four 'Houses' that all of us have been sorted in to, that is pupils and staff.
The purpose will be that of promoting responsibility and team work as well as the opportunity to recognise good behaviour, work and attitudes.
All staff will be able to award House Points (HPs) and our new House Captains will be responsible for collating these, recording how many each house has but also for motivating others to gain HPs in order to achieve a goal.
The houses have been named:
Cope (red)
Rawding (green)
Smith (yellow)
Doughty (blue)
These houses have been named after four soldiers from Long Bennington who fought and died in WW1, but were unknown at the time of the creation of the War Memorial in the village, therefore are not named on it.
We hope that through our school and our children, their names can live on.
We are hoping that our houses will be able to organise competitions, run clubs, motivate others to do good work and to show what being a citizen of Long Bennington Academy should look like.
Here are a couple of beautiful photographs taken by Miss Baliol-Key at the recent cross-country meet.
I am very proud of all our runners and the effort and enthusiasm they put into it!
Well done everyone.
We have quite a nasty sickness bug sweeping through school at the moment.
If your child is poorly with either sickness or diarrhoea please note they need to be off school for 48 hours after the last episode. This way we can ensure that it is not spread amongst others.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Most children don’t write letters
'A survey by the National Literacy Trust has found that two thirds of primary school children and more than three quarters at secondary school never write letters. Those who did pen letters on a regular basis were more likely to have writing skills above the level expected for their age group. '
Daily Telegraph
I just found this piece of research and thought it was interesting enough to share with our school community. Food for thought I think......
Thank you to all families and staff for making this first morning of our new routine such a crisp, productive start.
The children came in to school quietly and calmly, sorted their bags and coats out efficiently and were in the classrooms ready to learn for 9.00am. When I walked the school at 9.05am I was so pleased to see the children working busily in their classrooms and I thank you all for such a good response.
We have registered for the Flora Tubs for Tablets scheme which will give us a free Samsung Galaxy tablet for our school for every 50 tokens we collect from special Flora promotional packs.
The scheme runs up until December and promotional tubs are only available at Tesco.
If you can help us to collect, please bring them in an envelope to the office.
Thank you!
