Welcome to Year 5/6.

In Mr Haigh's class we work hard, have fun and look out for each other. We grow in emotional intelligence and believe that kindness seems to be a very good answer to everything. When we go wrong, we pick each other up, show forgiveness and resilience and try again, knowing that mistakes are human. When things go well, we celebrate each other.

We know that waiting is important. Being patient is a skill worth having. 

We use our words wisely and we try to take every opportunity to do good things. 

Being creative, artistic, sporty, mathematical, scientific or having language skills are what we are all about in our class team. We are some of the most grown up people in school and we look after younger people by getting to know them.

We are a lovely class and people are welcome here. 

Oh yeah, we'll do PE on Tuesday and Wednesdays.

Mr Haigh is very keen for parents to drop in if there are any bits and pieces that he could do with knowing or may be able to help with. The door is (almost) always open.

Just a quick note to explain homework in class 5/6. 

For now, I am asking that the children continue to read and talk about their books with an adult, preferably daily. I would also like them to keep chipping away at Times Table Rock Stars, accepting the need to be sensible over screen time. 

The 11+ is looming large for the next couple of weekends and I would like those children who are involved with this to feel no extra homework pressure. I have asked the children to do a couple of little things (write a prayer, draw a picture related to our book) and am content that this is fine for now. Once we are all fully settled, I will be sending a small amount of maths work too. I also appreciate the many out of school commitments the children have and only want to strike a fair balance. 

I do expect the children to do the work and give them lots of time to come to ask for my help, if they get stuck. This is mainly to help them form good habits in readiness for Y7 (further away for some, of course). 

So, please carry on with the book chat, which is incredibly valuable. Any questions, pop in to see me. 

Finally, I hope to see lots of children participating in our own after school clubs. I will be running a Performance Poetry club on Mondays and there is choir that night too. Keep an eye out for other opportunities to try something new.
