• Mr Watson Shortlisted for award

  We are delighted to announce that Mr Watson has been shortlisted for Apprentice of the Year in the Grantham Journal’s Business awards 2018!!!!!!!!!

   

  We nominated him back in the summer term and were over the moon to find out that he has made it into the top 3!!!!

   

  The Journal received a  total of 219 nominations, with some categories having as many as 30 entries.

   

  This is a huge achievement and we are all very proud of him.

   

  The awards take place in November when we will find out who the winner is.

• Staff Changes - September 2018

  Welcome back to a brand new academic year. We are all very excited to anticipate all of the new challenges ahead of us this year.

  We have a significant change in staff structure this year that all parents need to be aware of.

  Mrs Christine MacDonald has been the Deputy Head here at Long Bennington for a considerable number of years however, she has chosen to step down from this role from the beginning of this academic year. We are incredibly grateful to her for all of the hard work and commitment she has shown to this school over the years and we are really glad that we have been able to keep her on staff and still in her role as SENDCo.

  We have appointed two Assistant Headteachers who will be responsible for supporting the continuous drive for improvement in school - Miss Baliol-Key and Mr Haigh. They will each take on key strategic responsibilities within the management structure of the school and will be responsible for acting as designated Headteacher in my absence.

  I am confident that both will have the support of all our community, parents, staff and pupils alike.

   

• Book signing by local author

  On Saturday, June 2nd, there will be a book signing by local author Jessica Collett at WHSmith in Grantham. It starts at 11.00am and some of our fantastic Y6 children have made posters to advertise the event which you should see in WHSmith windows very soon.

  Jessica is a trainee teacher and at the age of 26 has just had her first book published. The book is a children's fiction book set in the time of World War 2 and follows the fortunes of an evacuee called Violet who leaves the dangers of wartime Grimsby to stay with an aristocratic family in the Derbyshire countryside.

  As part of her training, Jessica has done some volunteer work here at Long Bennington, including  helping out as a volunteer on last year's residential visit to Northumberland.

  It would be amazing for me as her Mum, to see some of our children at the signing, showing our support for her and also sharing the excitement of this achievement.

  My job on the day apparently is snacks and drinks.....

• 11+ Club

  If your child is in Y4/5 currently and is interested in having a look at past 11+ papers and having a go at a couple, there will be some school staff and some of our Y6 pupils in Class 10 on a Monday lunchtime to talk them through a few papers.

  This is not tutoring for the test, this is basic familiarisation with the format and helping children to overcome concerns or worries they might have.

  Sessions start on the first Monday after the holiday  from 12.00-12.30pm.

• World Book Day

  World Book Day celebrations and events are postponed until Friday 9th March.  Any competition entries now have until next Friday to be in school. I look forward to seeing your creations and amazing costumes next Friday!

• Snow Update for Thursday 1st March 18

  Dear Parents and Carers,

   

  As you know, the ‘Beast from the East’ has set in motion some very changeable weather conditions in our region this week.

  Our primary concern is always the care and safety of our children, parents and staff when treacherous road conditions such as we have seen today exist.

  At this moment in time, our intention to be open for business as usual tomorrow – however we are aware that things can dramatically change overnight and deteriorate quickly.

  Therefore we will keep you posted as early as we can about if this decision changes at all. We will use the following formats to let you know :

  • The rolling scroll bar on the website;
  • Twitter (@Longbennac )
  • Parentmail.

   

  We will not know until tomorrow morning what the conditions are for all our staff as they travel in from all directions and some from up to a 50 minute drive away, so we may have to open with a ‘skeleton’ staff, in which case please be patient with us, we will do our very best to keep things running as usual. If the weather gets bad during the day and we need to get people home and safe we will Parentmail you all to let you know and we will put it on the website for those who do not use Parentmail – so please keep watching your emails if the weather takes a turn for the worse. If you can’t access your Parentmail, it might be a good idea to ask another parent who you know can access it to text you if there is a problem.

   

  Please, above all, if you are at all worried about the drive from where you live, don’t risk it. Stay warm and safe.

• Let's Support Joshua and Grace

  Joshua Lane and Grace Norris-Bowen are going to be taking part in the Belvoir Challenge - a fifteen miles walk that has been organised to raise money for the 'Children with Cancer' charity.

  We are all rooting for them, its a fantastic thing to do and for such a worthy cause.
