Dear Parents and Carers,
We are hoping to start a Cake Raffle to raise funds for some projects we wish to undertake around school.
The idea is that we set up a rota for parents providing a cake on a Friday morning (bought or made, either is fine!) and then school council sell tickets on a Friday morning play and last play to the children (and staff!) for 20p per ticket. At the end of last play the winning ticket is pulled and the winner gets to take the cake home for eating over the weekend. There will be no limit as to how many tickets can be bought, but if every child in the school buys at least 1 ticket a week, that could be £200 per month that we can raise.
All we need is a number of willing volunteers to put their names down for the cake rota (the more of us there are, the fewer times our names will come up on the rota) and bring a cake in on the nominated day. I am happy to put my name down for Week 1 – Friday 24th February.
If you feel that you are able to support this, please fill in the attached slip and we will organise the rota. This will be distributed ahead of half term so you have plenty of notice for your turn and also we will put it on the website under FSA if you ever need to access it.
Many thanks for your continued support – I look forward to tasting… I mean viewing all those lovely cakes.
Many thanks to Mrs Weaver for sending us some photos from the tag Rugby tournament for Y3/4.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Financially, the climate for schools – particularly for stand-alone academies like us, is not looking very positive at the minute.
You may have read in the press about schools making cuts and having to take difficult decisions in order to balance the budget and here at Long Bennington I think it is fair to say that we too are feeling the pinch.
We would therefore like to harness the fantastic ideas and fundraising powers of our parents –and I am aware that many of you recently have mentioned that you would be keen to get on board to help fundraise for our fabulous school. We have got a core group of very committed parents already, however I know that there have been lots of you enquiring how you can get involved in supporting the school.
I would like to invite you to a meeting where we can examine the capacity within the existing body of parents for re-launching the FSA (Friends of the School Association) and see if we can work together to make our school an even greater place for our children!
If you are interested and would like to get involved, please come to the school hall on Wednesday, 1st February at 6.30pm. All of you are very welcome!
Regards,
Mrs R J King
Dear Parents and Carers,
I have only just been informed by Rev’d Harriet that we will not be able to use the Church for our KS2 Carol Service on Monday 19th December as there will be a funeral taking place and she has sent massive apologies to all of our parents and children.
We are however, able to hold this service in the Church on Tuesday, 20th at 10.00am.
I am very aware that this is short notice and understand that there are a number of people who have organised work commitments around this event. We hope that a week’s notice might be enough for some people to reschedule, however for those of you who cannot change their time off, we are happy to do an extra performance in school on Monday morning at 10.00am so you can be part of this Christmas tradition.
We know it is not ideal, but we have tried to organise a compromise at very short notice so at least we can involve as many of you as we can!
Places are limited on the Monday morning, so please can we ask for only those people who cannot change work commitments to have priority at this performance, we look forward to seeing everyone else at St Swithun’s Church on Tuesday 20th December.
Thank you for your support and flexibility with this new arrangement,
Mrs R J King

I would like to pass on huge thanks to everyone who took the time to complete our Parent Survey before half term. We received just over 100 replies which is approximately a 40% return.
I really appreciate the honesty of your responses and the constructive criticism which has been offered in the spirit of whole school improvement.
I will be collating all these results into a review document that will be posted on the website within the next two weeks that shows what you, our parents, perceive to be our strengths and areas for improvement.
I will also draw up an action plan to address the majority of concerns you have raised - we want our school to be The Best it Can Be!
Thanks to all
Mrs R King
