Geography Intent Statement

To understand how and why the earth has been shaped as it has and our role in this.

"...inspire curiosity and fascination about the world and its people..."

 

In Geography pupils will be taught:

Locational knowledge

Name and locate the seven continents and the five oceans.

Name and locate the four countries of the UK, their capital cities and characteristics.

 

Place Knowledge

Comparing and contrasting areas of the UK with other non-European countries.

 

Human and physical geography

Climate study, relating learning to the Poles, Equator, the tropics, different biomes. 

Key physical features of the landscape, including coastal areas, rivers, mountains, volcanoes and the water cycle.

Human geography, including settlements, land use, trade links between countries and the distribution of natural rersources

 

Geographical skills and fieldwork.

Map skills, using globes, atlases, computer mapping, charts, tables and graphs.

Build their knowledge of the UK using an eight point compass and the features found on ordnance survey maps..
